Imphal, August 28 2023:
Maintaining that no representatives from Manipur, which has 5000 years of history, were invited during the Indian Constitutional Debate and while framing of the Indian Constitution, Manipur People's Party (MPP) has demanded that the Manipur State Assembly session on Tuesday unanimously adopt resolution for amending Article 3 of the Indian Constitution.
In a press communique, MPP said that Manipur conducted its first democratic election in July-August 1948 after framing the Manipur State Constitution Act 1947 much before the framing of the Indian Constitution.
The release further stated that Article 3 of the Indian Constitution which allows the Parliament to form new state by bifurcating territory from any state or by uniting two or more states completely or in parts, should be discussed in the Assembly and take a resolution to amend the said Article so as not to allow bifurcation of state without the consultation of the state and stakeholders concerned.
