Art an effective tool for mental health: Governor

Governor Anusuiya Uikey has said that art is an effective and useful tool for mental health which improves the quality of life and helps understand the world.
It is an essential part of our culture as art helps us understand the emotions and sensations deeper, the Governor said while inaugurating the Thoithoiba Mayanglambam's solo art exhibition "Saknairabasingi Liklu Pareng" held at Imphal Art College on Friday.
While conveying that like language, art is also a form of expression, she expressed that it message may be symbolic or religious, historical or political.
However, purpose of art is not just to transmit a message, but more importantly, to elicit an emotional response, she maintained, adding that painting has always had a special place in human life.
The artist does not look at happiness, sorrow, crisis, success and failure with ordinary eyes.
His vision penetrates the essence of things, finds many forms in one and shows them as they are, she added.
Referring to the present crisis, the Governor termed it unfortunate and appealed to the people to cooperate in bringing a normal and peaceful lire.
The Governor said, "let us make collective efforts to resolve this crisis so that our tradition of peaceful co-existence can be maintained".
The Governor also reiterated that she is in touch with the central leaders and efforts are being made to restore normalcy and peace so that all Internally Displaced People (IDPs) can return to their respective places as before and asked the artists to reach out to the children in relief camps.
