MCPCR reaches out to children in distress

A team of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) led by chairperson Keisham Pradipkumar assessed condition of children currently taking shelter in relief camps opened at the campuses of Veterinary office, Porompat and Government Dance College, Palace Compound on Sunday.
Chairperson Pradipkumar told media persons on the sidelines of the inspection visit that of the children at the Porompat camp aged between 6 and 15 years, four including two girls were found to be school drop-outs.
After studying the problems faced by the drop-out students, the ZEO team accompanying MCPCR team was advised to get admission of the students at the nearest school immediately to continue their studies, he said and appealed to the parents to encourage their wards attend school.
According to Pradipkumar, students in the age group of 14-18 years studying in private schools are not covered under Mid-Day Meal scheme but displaced students avail the same under the category of Child in Needs of Care and Protection (CNCP) under JJ Act.
In Imphal East alone, a total of 2016 students Talling under CNCP have been detected so far as per a report of CWC Imphal East and government should make arrangement for covering these students under Mid-Day Meal scheme so that they could carry tiffin-meal at school, he added.
Expressing elation over nearest Anganwadi centres providing supplementary food and routine programmes to children staying in relief camps, Pradipkumar encouraged the centres to sustain such acts of benevolence.
The MCPCR team also handed over 53 hot-case tiffin to children staying in the relief camps.
