Kakching CSOs, locals protest shooting & looting incident

Kakching CSOs in association with Kakching locals staged a sit-in protest today condemning the incident where one Naorem Krishnadas was shot and robbed of gold ornaments reportedly worth around Rs 40 lakh near Catholic School, Canchipur yesterday around 6:30 pm.
Local MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar was also present at the protest which was held at Kakching Keithel Naohal Lai Mamang.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, Naorem Ruhidas, brother of Krishnadas narrated the turn of events which led to the unfortunate incident.
He stated that the three of them (siblings) accompanied by a friend closed their jewellery shop at Waheng Leikai and made their way home towards Kakching around 5:30 pm along the Imphal-Moreh Road (NH 39) .
At Waithou they were overtaken by a speeding car and its occupants instructed them to stop while brandishing a gun.
Three unknown armed persons got down from the vehicle and two of them drove off in their car with his brother Krishnadas.
The remaining three were made to get on the unknown men's vehicle, he recalled.
While the vehicle with Krishnadas aboard stopped near Catholic School, the car with Ruhidas and the other two stopped a little way further from the spot.
After a while, the other vehicle drove up to where Ruhidas and the rest had halted and the unknown men proceeded to get off the vehicle.
Following this, the armed men left in their own vehicle leaving the three men behind.
At this juncture, the three men drove to the spot where the vehicle had last halted near Catholic School.
Here, they were informed by locals that Krishnadas had been shot and injured.
The police evacuated the wounded Krishnadas to RIMS and now he is receiving treatment at Shija Hospital, stated Ruhidas.
During today's protest, the protestors wielded placards with messages such as "We oppose life attempt on N Krishnadas", "We condemn looting of valuable ornaments", "Stop misusing firearms", "Punish the criminals" etc among others.
In addition, a committee was also formed to put pressure on the State Government to arrest and award appropriate punishment to the perpetrators and recover the lost property.
The Committee is also set to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister N Biren Singh and MLA M Rameshwar.
