Imphal, January 14 2024:
People of Khou-pum village donated vegetables and edible items for the residents of the relief camp set up at Leimaram Schedule Caste Girls Hostel, where people displaced from Churachandpur are taking shelter since outbreak of the violence on May 3, 2023 .
Khoupum villagers led by village leader Diasilung Pammei visited the relief camp on Sunday and handed over vegetables and edible items to the residents.
After handing over the items, Diasilung said Khoupum villagers are delighted for getting the opportunity to extend some items to the displaced people and hope that the humble gestures would help mitigate suffering of the displaced people at least to some extent.
He stressed that as the entire people of Manipur have been affected by the ongoing violence the government should initiate steps to restore peace and normalcy at the earliest.
He also expressed fear that people would face more suffering if the violence continues? On the other hand, relief camp resident named Leitongbam Abik said that the camp is now filled with shortages while expressing that the internally displaced persons cannot be expected to survive forever with two square meals provided by the government.
