Sit-in protests gun attack, robbery

Kakching, January 14 2024:
Ideal Pioneers Club, Kakching Ningthou Leikai along with the people of Kakching staged a sit-in protest at Kakching Bazar on Sunday, condemning the attack on one Naorem Krishnadas on Saturday, wherein he was shot on his leg and robbed of gold jewellery worth around Rs 40 lakh.
Naorem Krishnadas (35) s/o Naorem Mohendro of Kakching Ningthou Leikai is the owner of Mohendro Jewellery, which is located at Wahengbam Leikai.
On Saturday night, he was returning home along with his younger brother and two relatives in an XUV, when they were chased and way-laid by another car at Waithou area of the Imphal-Moreh road.
A group of masked armed people alighted from the car and got into Krishnadas' vehicle and directed him to drive towards Canchipur, while the other occupants were forced into the group's car.
After they arrived at Liwa road, the group tied up Krishnadas and shot him on the leg, before fleeing the scene with around Rs 40 lakh worth of jewellery.
During the sit-in, the protestors held placards condemning the attack on innocent civilians and demanding strict punishment of the culprits involved.
Various resolutions were also adopted such as condemnation of the crime; concerted efforts to stop such crimes amidst the on-going conflict; for the government to look into the crime and punish the culprits; recovery of the stolen jewelleries; and constitutions of an Action Committee.
The sit-in protest was also attended by Kakching MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar.
Later, the Action Committee along with MLA Rameshwar and the victim's family met the chief minister at the CM's Bungalow in the evening and urged for arrest and strict punishment of the culprits involvement.
The CM, in response, gave assurances to take up necessary action in the matter.
