Imphal, January 14 2024:
The 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will not unite but destroy the unity and integrity of India, said chief minister N Biren.
Speaking to reporters on the side-lines of the 8th Armed Forces Veterans' Day at 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles, here on Sunday, CM Biren contended that whenever Rahul Gandhi visits Manipur, there is always turmoil and disturbance in the state.
It is questionable whether Rahul Gandhi is visiting to prolong the chaos as the state has been steadily returning to normalcy, Biren posed and expressed disappointment over the manner in which the Congress party is creating issues with regard to permission for the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
This is not the time to play politics and take out rallies as the state government is prioritising maintenance of law and order, he maintained.
The chief minister further appealed to the people to remain alert and prevent any kind of unwanted incidence from happening in the state.
Later in the day, N Biren met the JAC and the bereaved families of the four firewood collectors who were found brutally killed on January 10 and assured to do the needful.
Biren stated that if the violence against innocent civilians by external elements continues, he would have to take extreme actions to defend the integrity of Manipur.
This is not a political speech, but his true thoughts from his heart after experiencing the continuous threats to existence of the Meetei community, he affirmed.
The CM also pointed that not all members of the Kuki community are at fault.
While the old, indigenous Kuki community of Manipur are relatively innocent, the conflict has been caused and fanned by the non-indigenous Kukis from outside the state, who are engaged in drug trade and want to suppress all the indigenous communities of Manipur.
Stating that authorities concerned have been instructed not to transfer IRB personnel from their posts without informing him, CM Biren said that any strategy or plan on how to deal with the enemies will be discussed behind closed doors, and not aired out to the public.
He then urged farmers to contact IRB or any security forces before going to their fields so as to prevent any unwanted incidents.
Regarding the Kumbi Haotak incident, Biren announced that houses for the three deceased including the father-son duo would be constructed within a week and advised the families to contact the DC concerned.
He also informed that appropriate compensation or ex-gratia will be provided to the families of the deceased.
"Almost everyone wants peace in the state," he contended, while urging all to be careful at all times, especially in such perilous times.
