DAs observe Armed Forces Veterans' Day

District administrations of Bishnupur, Churachandpur and Thoubal among others honoured and felicitated retired soldiers, family members and better-halves of martyred personnel on the occasion of Armed Forces Veterans' Day.
In Bishnupur district, the 8th Armed Forces Veterans' Day was observed at the conference hall of the office of Deputy Commissioner, Bishnupur district with DC Lourembam Bikram, DFO Waikhom Romabai, ADC Hanjabam Bobby Sharma, district level officersand staff of the district administration in attendance.
On Saturday, the district administration hosted 'At Home Reception of Veterans and Veer Naris' at the DC's office during which Bikram interacted with Laishram Boeing Singh, the younger brother of major (late) Laishram Jyotin Singh, who was awarded Ashoka Chakra posthumously; Konsam Sanjita Devi, wife of naik Konsam Gautam Singh Sena Medal (Gallantry) and 'Veer Nari' H (o) Surbala Devi, wife of sepoy (late) PS Robinson Anal.
The nation-wide observance of the Veterans' Day was also held in Thoubal district on Sunday during which the district administration led by DC Ahanthem Subhash Singh felicitated the veteran-soldiers at the DC's conference hall.
Six retired armed forces personnel and two war widows were honoured with presentation of traditional stole on the occasion.
The event was also attended by Armed Forces Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association (AFESWA), Thoubal wing commander (retired) Ak Debendro Singh, honorary executive captain (retired) P Khelendro, subedars (retired) M Khogendro, M Natun & K Ingocha and naib subedar (retired) L Babuchouba, district administration officials, and staff of DC office.
Speaking at the event, Ak Debendro Singh urged the DC to provide office room for the Association and also apprised the DC about the service rendered by the Association members for the internally displaced persons staying in different relief camps in the district.
Similarly, the 8th Armed Forces Veterans' Day was observed at Mini Secretariat conference hall of DC, Churachandpur on Sunday under the auspices of the district administration.
The observance was held with brigadier Michael D'Souza of 27 Sector Assam Rifles, Tuibong as chief guest in the presence of DC Dharun Kumar.
Certificates of appreciations in recognition of outstanding contribution and dedication to the service of the nation were handed over to the next of kin of 10 veteran soldiers by the chief guest.
The observance was also attended by 1st IRB CO L Khongsai, ADC Thangboi Gangte, 'Veer Naris' and DLOs, among others.
In connection with the 8th Armed Forces Veteran's Day -2024, an 'At Home Reception' programme was held for Seva Medal (Gallantry) recipient lieutenant colonel Shem Khumba of Karuang-muan village, Noney district at Noney DC's office chamber on Saturday.
Lieutenant colonel Shem Khumba was honoured by DC Joseph Pauline Kamson in the presence of Army officers and other CSO leaders.
It may be mentioned that lieutenant colonel Shem Khumba contributed his best services to the nation in the Jat Regiment.
