Moirang, January 14 2024:
Mutual respect and harmony among communities is a must to build a strong State, said former rebel leader RK Meghen.
He said this while speaking at a convention organised on the theme "Hingminnasi" at Ibudhou Nongda Lairen Pakhangba Laibung Community Hall at Kwasiphai, Bishnupur district.
Meghen said Manipur should strive to become self-reliant to become strong and vibrant.
Manipur's economy is hollow.
It depends on others in every sector.
The State should become self reliant to become strong, he said.
"We must know who are indigenous (to Manipur) and who aren't.As we do not know who is who, we [indigenous communities] have been divided on many occasions," Meghen said.

Today's convention saw the attendance of Kabui and members of other indigenous communities.
"This is proof that we have started living together," he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashang Kasar said the women and mothers of Manipur have played important roles throughout the history.
The movement women have launched amid the conflict between communities today is to save Manipur, he said.
What Manipur needs at present is coexistence.
A policy that would not divide must be followed, he added.
Ashang said it is time for all to unite with a strong determination to coexist together as one.
