Workshop on 21st century skills underway

A weeklong international workshop on "21st Century Skill Set for Academic Support Staff", which is jointly being organised by Manipur University's Manipur Institute of Management Studies (MIMS), and North Eastern Manage ment Association (NEMA), India in association with Sherubtse College, Royal University of Bhutan, commenced from Tuesday at Manipur University court hall.
Manipur University vice-chancellor professor N Lokendra, who attended the inaugural session as chief guest, said that internationalisation of knowledge and skills is crucial to ensure an institution deliver its full potential.
While calling for coordinating with different countries to help improve status of institutions and commending conduct of the workshop by NEMA and MIMS as a right step in this direction, the VC pointed out that in developed countries like USA, international institutions have certain criterions for ensuring 30 per cent foreign faculties and students.
He also expressed confidence that the weeklong workshop will create more opportunities for academic improvement in the university.
Professor Lokendra further said that Bhutan is a Himalayan country, which has its own unique characteristics.
Institutions in Himalayan countries have Inter-Himalayan Consortium to facilitate coordination and cooperation among them.
Manipur University is working towards understanding the sentiments of students and youth of these countries for further coordination, he added.
MIMS, MU director professor L Prabhakar presided over the function while MU School of Social Science dean professor Th Purnima, Sherubtse College Student Service officer Sonam Tenzin and NEMA director & MU Registrar professor W Chandbabu were guests of honour of the inauguration function.
