ZUCM junks claim of 'Zalengam' author

Imphal, October 08 2023: Zeliangrong United Committee Manipur Valley (ZUCM) has dismissed as totally baseless the claim made by PS Haokip, the Myanmar-based KNO chief and author of "Zalengam: Kuki Nation" .

In a release, Committee president Meibon Phaomei endorsed the statement issued by Zeliangrong Youth Organisation Nagaland president R John condemning the irrational assertion of PS Haokip and his lies .

"It is extremely shocking and ridiculous that fake stories are more often than not made to surface again and again by certain Kuki writers including PS Haokip.

Moreover, he (PS Haokip) has no knowledge about the factual position of Zeliangrong Nagas in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland, and the traditional land holding system and the true historical events.

There was never a verbal or written tale of the indigenous Zeliangrong Nagas giving taxes to the outsider Kukis who came to the region from Myanmar in 1880s only," Meibon continued, while adding that no historical books (other than Zelengam) mentioned Kukis as land owners in Manipur, Naga hills, etc.

Pointing out that Nagas were and are indigenous people while Kukis came only in early 20th century, he urged all to stop spreading hate speeches, spiteful writings, lies or false stories or distorting history which tend to add fuel to an already burning furnace.

The president further exhorted all to speak or write true facts of the past glories of Communal peace and harmony for early restoration of peace in Manipur.
