Imphal, November 07 2023:
Condemning the acts of terrorism against civilians and students allegedly by Kuki militant groups bound by the SoO agreement with state and central government, six student bodies have exerted pressure on the government for launching a special operation to flush out the Kuki militants indulging in terrorism so as to ensure peace and normalcy in Manipur.
A release issued by MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK, AIMS and another students' body demanded the government to trace the two missing boys and launch a special operation for flushing out Kuki militants so as to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
Rule of law should be maintained to protect the people, it added.
The student bodies questioned why central govern ment is hesitant to abrogate SoO agreement signed with Kuki outfits in-spite of the latter violating the agreed ground rules.
In Kangpokpi where there are over 800 cadres of Kuki militant groups under SoO, people are facing frequent threats and intimidation.
So, to thwart such terrorist acts and flush out the militants, a special operation similar to the one currently on in Moreh should be launched in Kangpokpi.
The government should also revoke SoO agreement with the Kuki militant groups for violating ground rules if peace and normalcy is to be restored in the state, the release maintained.
