Imphal, November 07 2023:
In a distressing incident amid the ongoing crisis and the hindrance on agricultural activities, unknown miscreants burnt paddy stacks kept for threshing at Keirao Bitra Makha Leikai Loukol under Irilbung police station.
The incident took place at around 3 am, today.
It is reported that the burnt paddy stacks were harvested from five lousen (a local unit of land measurement) which belong to one Ningthoujam Dinesh.
Farm owner Dinesh said that he put more effort in planting paddy this season due to the rain deficit and even took a water pump on rent to irrigate the field.
Saying that he harvested the crops only yesterday by hiring people and gathered them at the field for threshing, Dinesh continued that he was apprised of the incident (burning of paddy stacks) by one woman who vends vegetables at Khwairamband Keithel.
Dinesh went on to state that he along with some other people tried to extinguish the fire but the paddy stacks were found completely burnt already.
He appealed to the Government to arrest the miscreants who burnt his paddy stacks and take legal action against them at the earliest.
It is reported that no other farms at Keirao Bitra Makha Leikai Loukol, even the adjacent ones remain intact.
A case has been registered at Irilbung police station.
