Imphal, November 07 2023:
The residence of JNIMS Director Dr Deben at Kakwa Asem Leikai was attacked by a group of armed miscreants late last night at around 10.30 .
It is reported that the miscreants fired about 11 rounds.
The gate and some parts of the house were hit by the bullets.
A rear windscreen of a car belonging to Deben's brother also got damaged in the attack.
No person, however, was injured in the attack.
Dr Deben wasn't at home as he was away at his official quarters during the time of the incident.
Police have so far recovered 11 empty cases of the fired bullets.
As per the CCTV footage taken from the nearby areas, the armed miscreants came in an unregistered car (Alto) .
Singjamei police have started investigating the case.
Denouncing the incident, a sit in protest was organised by Langthabal Kendra Clubs' Coordinating Committee and Langthabal Kendra Meira Paibi Coordinating Committee at Kakwa Asem Leikai, today.
At the protest demonstration, Dr Deben said that launching a gun attack at the densely populated area amid the ongoing crisis is unfortunate.
Saying that attacking fellow Meeteis at this difficult juncture will hinder in creating unity among the Meeteis, the JNIMS Director said that he along with the people in the same profession have been organising free health camps at foothills and other areas every Sunday apart from distributing relief materials to the displaced people.
Dr Deben said that he is a member of Taragi Cheisu and has been taking part in the campaign to enlist Meetei/Meitei in the ST list.
Saying that he has no idea about the motive behind the attack, Dr Deben appealed to one and all to refrain from carrying out gun attacks at densely populated areas.
He then appealed to all concerned to clarify the motive behind the attack and give him the room to rectify if he had done anything wrong.
The Trained Nurses Association JNIMS has also condemned the incident.
