Doctors urged to prescribe generic medicines

Acknowledging that many of the patients in the state are not in a position to buy highly priced medicines and often delay treatment, health minister Dr S Ranjan has urged the medical practitioners to prescribe generic medicines of Jan Aushadhi to the public.
Speaking as the chief guest at the launch cum awareness programme on "Gender Based Violence and Medico Legal Care for Survivors/Victims of Sexual Violence scheme" jointly organised by Directorate of Family Welfare Services and State Health Society, NHM at Hotel Imphal, here, on Thursday, Dr Ranjan pointed out that generic medicines of Jan Aushadhi are scientifically proven quality medicines made available at affordable prices at special outlets known as Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Yojana Kendra under a specific policy of the union government.
The minister also opined that it would fruitful if workshops aimed at preventing gender-based crimes are organised jointly by health and social welfare departments and legal authority and there is coordination among the departments and institutions concerned.
Maintaining that all programmes of the health department are important, he said that the department has been taking up all measures to help the public stay hale and hearty as well as facilitate cost-effective treatment in case of the citizens suffering from certain ailments.
The government also took up the CMHA as an innovative project keeping in mind the importance of preventive healthcare.
He also said that the chief minister under the initiative of the Prime Minister has been facilitating free diagnosis to the public and making the services available at every nook and corner of the state.
Moreover, the government is planning to provide digital X-rays at 8/9 centres, confided the health minister.
Presided over by health and family welfare commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jha, the function was also attended by Family Welfare Services director Dr L Tomcha Khuman, Social Welfare director Nangom Uttam and NHM state mission director Dr Somorjit Ningombam as guests
of honour.
