State third in HIV prevalence chart

Imphal, November 30 2023:
Standing at 0.94 percent, Manipur is now ranked third among the highest HIV prevalence states in India.
It has been able to come down from number one position in the last few years.
According to a 2021 data, Manipur declined to third position in terms of prevalence rate with Mizoram topping the chart at 2.07 percent followed by Nagaland at 1.36 percent.
The HIV prevalence rate among the adults in India has been recorded at 0.20 percent with that of Manipur, according to the 2015 data, standing at 1.48 percent.
On the other hand, the number of people living with HIV in the state is 25,948 while HIV positive people on ART is 14,175 .
Of the total number of people on ART, 6528 are adult males, 6767 are adult females, 116 transgender, 383 boys and 381 girls.
As of now, a total of 8785 people have lost their lives to HIV as per record available.
Meanwhile, the state gov eminent is all set to observe the World AIDS Day on Friday.
Manipur State AIDS Control Society will be observing the day at DIPR conference hall under the theme "Let Communities Lead" with health minister Dr S Ranjan and health commissioner PK Jha as chief guest and president respectively.
