CSOs blame Kukis for violence in state

Imphal, June 25 2023: The Collective of Civil Society Organisations Kangleipak (Manipur) said that the primary reason for the unrest situation in the state is due to the unprovoked attacks by Kukis on Meetei villages after Manipur government prevented poppy cultivation, encroachment in reserved forests and tVie process initiated for NRC implementation.

One glaring example is the refusal of the illegal immigrants from Myanmar to stay in shel ter camps established by government and develop ing own villages as mentioned in the report of the Cabinet Sub-committee headed by minister Letpao Haokip.

This also showcased that immigrants set up many villages and they are being used for electoral politics with some politicians intentionally bringing in these immigrants and setting up new villages to strengthen their political positions, said the Collective of Civil Society Organisations Kangleipak (Manipur) .

According to a statement of the Society, illegal immigrants from Myanmar are being utilised in poppy cultivation as very labourers and allowed them to earn money in very easy manner.

In order to prolong this nefarious practice, these immigrants are also being utilised as cadres of Kuki militants and brainwash them with the Kuki-land dream.

The ongoing conflict to realise this dream victimised innocent people of both the Kuki and Meetei communities.

Accordingly, the attacks on Meetei people by Kuki are not related to ST status demand which is understood by both the Meetei and Kuki people.

Kanglamei, KIL and KSA further said there should not be combing operation in peripheral valley area until there is crackdown on Kuki militants.

All the arms looted by the Meetei people will definitely be returned as and when attacks by Kuki militants cease, the statement added.
