Peace call rung out at Delhi, state

Meitei Christian Churches Council and Meitei Heritage Society jointly organised met-ing-cum-demonstration on the theme 'Save Manipur' at Constitutional Club of India hall, Delhi on Saturday.
The programme was attended by Delhi University assistant professor Ramananda, pastor Nabachandra, National Commission for Minority convenor Amrik Singh Pawa, Forum for Restoration of Peace convenor Ashang Kasar, Meitei Christian Churches Council president O Kumar, cyclist Rohan Phi-lem and Meiteis residing in Delhi among others.
The protestors held placards inscribed with the words 'We want peace', 'Stop using tribal card', 'Don't mix faith and territorial integrity', 'We are against divisive force and external aggression', 'Stop poppy plantation' and 'Stop protecting SoO militants' .
Speaking in this regard, Ashang Kasar pointed out that the present conflict in Manipur is between the indigenous and non-indigenous communities of the state.
Though large numbers of central forces have been despatched to the state by the central government, the conflict is yet to end due to the insincerity of the politicians, he contended.
Meanwhile, women of Khurai area under the aegis of Union of Social Upliftment Core Committee Women's Wing Khurai Pana organised a sit-in protest at Khurai Lamlong Keithel on Saturday.
Interacting with the media at the protest venue, committee convenor Sougrakpam Leirangton said that five per sons from Khurai area have been killed in the crisis.
Their demand is to the remaining SO MLAs of the state to take a resolution to urge the Centre to discuss the Manipur issue in Parliament session, which will begin from July 20 in order to bring an end to the cycle of violence and restore peace in the state.
