Kangpokpi, July 15 2023:
The Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) Sadar Hills has urged the authority concerned to book the culprits involved in torching three trucks belonging to M/S Misao Gas Service this morning in Sekmai area of Imphal West 'before things get out of hand' .
The three empty trucks of M/S Misao Gas Service which used to transport or ferry LPG cylinders stationed at Sekmai LPG Bottling Plant were torched by a mob this morning.
It is reported that the three trucks moved out of the bottling plants after the gas agency received approval from the police.
The Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum's (ITLF) also condemned the incident in the strongest terms during its emergency meeting held at Kanggui (Kangpokpi) town.
Situations in Kangpokpi district are tense after the torching of the three trucks as an enraged mob decided to block National Highway-2 over the incident again.
There, however, is no official declaration of blockade.
CoTU information and publicity secretary Thang-tinlen Haokip said that they have been trying to convince the public to not cause any trouble in the movement of vehicles carrying essential items along the highway stretch.
Strongly condemning the incident, he claimed that the trucks were torched to escalate the already volatile situation.
He also asked how the mob could torch the trucks with security coverage.
According to Thangtinlen , the trucks were torched near Khurkhul areas.
He said that out of the three trucks all bearing Manipur registration number, one was set ablaze completely while the other two were burnt partially.
A complaint has also been lodged by the LPG agency at Gamnom Saparmeina police station in connection with the torching of the three trucks.
