Imphal, July 15 2023:
The present crisis in Manipur is suspected to be a state-sponsored genocide carried out against the Meitei community with the involvement of the government of India, exclaimed cultural activist Ningthouja Lancha.
Speaking during a meeting of women organised by Sagolband Salam Leikai Meira Paibi here on Saturday, Ningthouja Lancha contended that ever since eruption of the ethnic violence, the central forces deployed in the state have failed to act impartially while remaining as mute spectators when Meitei houses are torched.
Considering all these facts, there is high possibility that the present crisis is a state sponsored genocide with involvement of the government of India.
Maintaining that the situation in the state is very critical, Ningthouja Lancha said that we cannot let the union government solve the present crisis in favour of the Kukis as any solution brought about with a soft corner for the Kukis will be a loss for Manipur.
"A public meeting should be organised and resolutions adopted to bring about an amicable solution to the present crisis," he added.
He also pointed out the need to increase the strength of Manipur police commandos in Moreh and put an end to the discouraging and insulting attitude shown towards the police commandos by the Kukis in Moreh.
The fantasy of 'area domination' as envisioned by the Kukis in Moreh, Churachandpur and Kang pokpi should be destroyed by deploying additional central and state force in the areas.
Stating that the union government should take up actions against cross border terrorists, arrest and punish them and deport them back to their country, Ningthouja Lancha said that the people of the state do not desire to live under chaos for long.
Displaced people should be made to re-settle in their respective villages by providing adequate security arrangement.
He also said that the number of Meitei people losing their lives would have been manifold if the Meira paibi who had acted as shield during the ongoing agitation, had not taken up necessary measures.
