Imphal, July 15 2023:
The Koubru Range Liangmai Women Union (KRLWU) appealed to the "two warring communities" in Manipur for peace.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Union said that the Liangmais are a peace loving community and have teen coexisting peacefully with other communities since time immemorial.
The on-going conflict is affecting everyone, young and old, rich and poor in the state, it added.
The statement then said that Manipur is not new to conflicts.
"The state has witnessed many conflicts in the past, and we are still recovering from them.
The current conflict has worsened the lives of the common people, affecting business activity especially of the daily wage earners.
It is affecting the education system, prospects and careers of students.
If the conflict is not put to an end soon, the next generation will have many school/ college dropouts and therefore, more goons will bloom in our society," the Union stated.
It further stated that the Liangmai women, in general, are saddened and heartbroken by the number of deaths, wounded and displaced people who have left the "comfort of their homes and struggling to survive in relief camps" .
The Union then called on the government and leaders of both communities to take necessary measures to stop the on-going "ethnic clashes" and bring peace.
