Governor visits relief camps in Churachandpur Bishnupur

Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Monday visited different relief centres in Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts where she interacted with the people affected by the crisis, and held a meeting with CSO leaders at Headquarters 27 Sector Assam Rifles, Tuibong.
During the meeting, the Governor raised issues pertaining to restoring peace and normalcy; welfare measures for displaced persons with special care for children, women and elderly; provisions of education and medical facilities to children in relief camps among others.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting with CSO leaders, the Gov-ernor assured that the government is making concerted efforts to facilitate restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.
Adequate numbers of central security forces are deployed in various parts of the state to ensure peace and security.
The Central government is also seriously pursuing matters per-taining to education, judicial enquiry and relief and rehabilitation.
A peace committee with herself as the chairperson has also been also formed, Anusuiya said, adding that as promised by the Union home minister, Rs 101.75 crore has been sanctioned for relief and rehabilitation.
Most of the promises made by the Union home minister have been ful-filled and the rest will soon be realised, she maintained.
Conveying her wish for restoration of peace and normalcy at the earliest, Anusuiya Uikey appealed to the lead-ers concerned to reconcile and make way for peace through dialogue.
She promised to come back to visit other relief centres.
The Governor visited relief cen-tres at Churachandpur College, Salt-Brook School and St Mary's Higher Secondary School.
She assured the inmates that their needs would be looked after by the government.
During her visit to relief camps, Anusuiya instructed the district administration and departments concerned to work closely towards providing special care to children, women, and elderly in relief camps.
Deputy Commissioner Sharath Ar-roju, IGP Kabib K, SP Karthik Maladi were also present during the meeting with CSO leaders.
On her way back to Imphal, the Governor stopped at Moirang and visited three relief camps opened at Moirang College and Chingu Thangjing Guest House in Bishnupur district.
The Governor first visited the relief camp at Moirang College where she enquired about the grievances of the affected people.
She interacted with the dis-placed people and all their complaints and grievances were also heard.
Gover-nor assured them to extend all possible help and directed the DC to provide all essential needs to the people.
She directed the district adminis-tration toprovide all requirements including food, clothes and consum-able items for all including children in the camp.
Later, the Governor went to the relief camp opened at Chingu Thangjing Guest House in Moirang and met with the affected people there.
A meet-ing was held there with CSOs, who submitted memoranda to the Governor with the appeal to take appropriate steps to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
The Governor in-teracted with the displaced people and assured to extend all possible help to them.
Later, speaking to the peo-ple there, she iterated that all out efforts are being made to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
Around 40,000 Central forces have been de-ployed and assisting the state administration in restoring peace and normalcy.
The in-cidents, which have erupted between two communities leading to the loss of valu-able lives and destruction of properties, shocked everyone including herself, she said while disclosing that she has already informed the Presi-dent of India, the Prime Min-ister and the Home Minister about the situation, and steps have been taken up to bring the situation under control with deployment of security forces in the vulnerable areas.
After the visit of Union home minister Amit Shah to the state, various initiatives for restoring peace have been initiated such as institution of judicial commission and formation of state level peace committee among others.
She said that discussions with chief minister, chief secre-tary, DGP and top ranking officers of Central forces have also been done to work out plans for maintaining law and order and for restoration of peace and normalcy.
Anu-suiya Uikey said she has met Central teams on relief and education for the displaced people and children.
He-licopter services have also been started for people in Moreh and Churachandpur and medical teams have been sent.
The peace committee formed by the Centre will meet this week to chalk out various plans for restoring peace and normalcy in the state, she added.
Appealing to all stakehold-ers including CSOs, clubs, or-ganisations and media frater-nity to contribute and support the peace plan, the Governor said, violence will not help any community and therefore all must cooperate and work together for restoring peace and normalcy in the state.
The Governor also appealed to all to maintain calm.
Meanwhile, our Chura-chandpur correspondent informed that Governor Anu-suiya Uikey arrived in Chu-rachandpur district around 10:30 am after which she went straight to Churachandpur College relief centre and in-teracted with the displaced people.
Children in the camp lined up holding the Indian national flag to welcome her and she with folded hands greeted and interacted with them.
Then she interacted with various inmates of the Centre and gave a patient hearing to their grievances and suf-ferings as she said that she is there to oversee their needs and requirements.
She prom-ised to make arrangement for proper water supply, food, medicine among others as soon as possible.
She was also welcomed by weeping old women, who told her about their problems, as she went from one room to another.
She later went to St Mary's School relief camp and then to Salt Brook relief centre.
Then she held a meeting with CSOs, ITLF and other tribal bodies at 27 Sector Assam Rifles, after which, she briefed the media.
Meanwhile one village guard was shot and injured by police commandos at S Kotlian - Lailoiphai areas.
He was rushed to Churachand-pur district hospital where he succumbed to his injury.
The victim has been identified as Muansang Naulak (22) son of Ginkhanlal.
