Senapati, October 17 2023:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Package 4A, 5A & 5B of NH-2 (Kohima-Imphal), Trans Asian Highway has decided to ban all highway construction works along the stretch of Package 4A, 5A & 5B until the ongoing arbitration process is resumed and completed in a time-bound manner starting from October 30, 2023 .
To recall, the JAC had launched democratic agitation on two occasions by banning all kinds of highway expansion works for prolonging the delaying of the arbitration process from the government's side.
The competent Authority of Land Acquisition (CALA) fixed the land rate without considering the opinions of the affected land owners, and the affected beneficiaries refused to accept the compensation award for more than three months.
The JAC has requested the appointed Arbitrator on several occasions, but the process has been delayed due to ethnic clashes.
The JAC had written a requesting letter for resumption of the arbitration process on August 28 and September 26, 2023 .
With no positive response from the authority concerned, the JAC is compelled to move ahead with intense democratic agitation by banning all kinds of highway expansion works starting October, 2023 30, the JAC warned.
