Senapati, October 17 2023:
The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has cautioned that they will launch various forms of agitation if the Government fails to lift the ban on internet service within five days.
In a statement, the apex Naga student body asked if the internet is being shut for over 158 days to suppress information and control the narrative surrounding the events happening in Manipur.
Stating that the prolonged ban on internet service other than the conditional lifting on broadband connections has taken a heavy toll on the people, ANSAM reminded that it is the internet which facilitates health, education and many other business and emergency services in contemporary society.
The student body further said that the conditional lifting of the internet cannot solve the problems of the entire people as not every family has broadband connections.
Prolonged internet shutdown has serious implication for the entire population, including the Nagas and it is a violation of fundamental rights, ANSAM added.
It may be mentioned that ANSAM had on September 7 and September 29 too asked the Government to lift the ban on internet service.
On the other hand, the office of ANSAM asked the Government to declare the result of the interview held in September, 2021 for the appointment of 190 Posts of Assistant Professors (145+45 ST Special Drive) for Government colleges of Manipur at the earliest.
