PICK, AKNCTL resolve to forego Ningol Chakkouba celebration

The Peace and Integrity Committee Kiyamgei (PICK) and All Kiyamgei Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup (AKNCTL) have resolved to forego Ningol Chakkouba celebration this year in cognizance of the untold suffering of the people.
Speaking to the media at Ibudhou Khagemba Macha Ibungo Shanglen, Kiyamgei Mamang Leikai, Ch Meghachandra, convenor, PICK appealed to people in Kiyamgei area to refrain from bursting firecrackers and indulging in dice gambling (lagao) in connection with Durga Puja and Diwali festivals.
He added that these activities will be strictly monitored and those found violating the directive will be held accountable for the consequences.
Welcoming the Committee on Tribal Unity's (CoTU) decision to claim the dead bodies of Kukis lying at JNIMS and RIMS morgue, the PICK convenor called for a handing over of the dead bodies of the two young students Phijam Hemanjit and Linthoingambi Hijam as well as other missing Meiteis in return.
Stressing on the brotherhood of hill and valley brethren, Chingakham Meghachandra urged the communities to work towards dispelling misunderstandings between the communities.
Meanwhile, Moirangthem Sobita, vice president, All Kiyamgei Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup addressed the hardships faced by displaced folks since the eruption of violence on May 3.In cognizance of their suffering and sharing in their grief and pain, she urged the people of Kiyamgei to collectively forego Ningol Chakkouba celebration and further appealed against bursting crackers and indulging in festivities during the upcoming Durga Puja and Diwali celebrations.
