Imphal, October 17 2023:
All Manipur Senior Citizens' Welfare Association observed the International Day of Older Persons 2023 under the theme 'Fulfilling the Promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Older Persons across Generations' at Old Age Home, Mongsangei Makha Leikai Arubam Leikol by inviting displaced elderly persons.
Local elder Angom Yaima, association president Sougrakpam Kunjabihari and land donor of the old age home Akoijam Ingobi attended the event as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
According to Association's general secretary B Sanamacha, the day is normally observed on October 1 but this year, the observance was deferred due to the current crisis in the state.
Elaborating on the significance of observing the day, he said that simply commemorating the day and ignoring the elders for the rest of the year does not hold any meaning.
The Home has been providing care, love and other services for the Older persons since its inception and this year, the association invited elderly citizens living in relief camp as the Home gets excess number of blankets from different donors.
Blankets were provided to 13 elders from Manipur College relief camp, 53 from Akampat Ideal Girls' College relief camp, and eight each from Shyamasakhi High School and Government Dance College relief camps on the occasion.
