Imphal, October 17 2023:
Reacting to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's recent statement that Manipur is divided into two States, the BJP Manipur Pradesh has questioned the stand of other political parties in the INDIA Alliance on the issue.
N Nimbus, vice-president, BJP Manipur Pradesh raised the poser during a press briefing held at Thambal Shanglen located at Keishampat Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal today.
It may be noted that the Congress party holds a key position in the INDIA Alliance which is an Opposition front and a coalition of 28 political parties.
Reflecting on the statement made by the Congress scion during a rally at Aizawl in connection with the upcoming Assembly polls, N Nimbus said that the controversial statement is quite unfortunate.
Rahul Gandhi's visit to the State in the midst of the ongoing conflict was also rife with many unfortunate incidents.
But Indian National Congress (INC) MP Jairam Ramesh called his visit a part of their famous 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'.
However, in stark contrast, in a move that appears to challenge the sentiments of the people of Manipur, Rahul Gandhi has voiced a statement that should not be uttered by a leader, said N Nimbus.
Thus, the BJP Manipur Pradesh vice-president said that the political parties who are part of the INDIA Alliance should clearly lay down their own stance on the issue before the public.
As for the BJP, the party stands firm against balkanisation of Manipur in any form, he asserted.
Meanwhile, K Saratkumar, State general secretary, BJP Manipur Pradesh recalled the submission of a memorandum to Governor Uikey by member parties of INDIA Alliance on Friday wherein a confrontation with security forces and rioters/youths also ensued.
He stated that the ruckus created by the law-breaking youths may be chalked up to lack of forethought or inability to control one's emotions but the lawmakers and veteran politicians among them should have better discerned the situation.
As the Governor was not present at the Raj Bhawan then, it is a well known fact that a representative can be sent to submit the memorandum, he said.
However, seeing how the situation panned out, he raised suspicions if the delegates of the 10 political parties had stepped out of Congress Bhawan to submit the memorandum with the objective of causing a stir.
