Search Ops conducted, weapons recovered

Imphal, October 17 2023:
State police and central forces continued to conduct search operations in different parts of the state on Tuesday.
According to a police report, a combined team of Sagolmang police station, Imphal East district commando, Imphal East Reserved Line, Special Commando, women police and 2/8 GR under the supervision of IGP (zone 1) and DIG (range-1) carried out a search operation in Nungsum village and areas of Yaingnganpokpi hill range located between Nungsum and H Khopibung Kuki village from 2.30 am till 5.46 am on Tuesday.
During the operation, the combined team searched around 80 households and recovered one .303 Rifle with magazine, one assault rifle, two SMG carbines with magazine, one Sten gun with magazine, two 9mm pistols with magazine, two wireless sets (KNEWOOD), two tube launchers, 11 hand grenades, one smoke grenade, seven motor shells, three magazines of INSAS rifle, magazine of INSAS LMG, seven jungle boots, 62 assorted ammunition, 42 blank cartridges, one country made bomb launcher (Pompi), three combat dresses (short & pant), two shirts, two t-shirts, one jacket, and five BP jackets.
The recovered items have been handed over to Sagolmang PS for further legal action.
On the other hand, a joint team of Churachandpur district police, Assam Rifles and BSF carried out search operation at Old Dampi village from 5.30 am till 10.30 pm on Tuesday during which one 9mm pistol with magazine, one local made single barrel, one 12mm bore rifle with live round, 21 rounds of heavy calibre machine gun, one country made long range heavy mortar gun (10 ft), one country made bomb, one dress combat, One pouch and one rocket propelled grenade were recovered.
Meanwhile, Imphal West district police carried out search operations from 2pm till 2.40 pm Tuesday at Kasturi Crossing, Dharmasala, Ngari Gali, Bora Gali and along Yaima Store in the heart of Imphal.
In all, around 1J5 people were verified, of which five without identification papers were handed to City PS for further verification.
Kakching district police also conducted a search operation at Tejpur Mayai Leikai from 6am till 7.30 am on Tuesday and searched altogether 45 houses and verified 68 people.
However, there is no report of any arrest made.
In another operation spearheaded by Special Commando Unit, Khabeisoi OC subedar L Bebekananda, SI Y Kayelkumar and head constable H Omega, several arms and ammunition were recovered from Ngariyan Hills under Andro Police Station in Imphal East district on Tuesday evening.
The operation, involving a 12-member team from the special CDO unit, found two jute gunny bags and a suspected long-range weapon covered in a cloth near a pillar of state forest department marked as NRF, approximately 130 metres southwest of the abandoned Don Bosco school building.
Upon inspection of the bags, the CDO team found one IN-SAS rifle with body number 18407556 and 16 live rounds, 10 grenades marked as 80 WP; 15 bomb detonators (OT 3C); 36 bomb detonators (OT No 28DKF5-76); two HE bombs (3 MOR HE); four green-coloured ammunition boxes (WP 80-36 M green rifle FXDJAD-75); and one green iron box designed for carrying explosives.
The arms cache was secured at 6:50 PM, adhering to necessary legal procedures, and was promptly handed over to Andro Police Station for further investigations and appropriate action.
Notably, no arrests were made during this operation.
