₹18 Cr looted from Ukhrul PNB

Ukhrul, November 30 2023:
In an unprecedented shocking crime, a group of armed miscreants robbed a branch of Punjab National Bank (PNB) of over Rs 18 crore around 5:40 pm in Ukhrul town on Thursday.
Sources said that around 10 masked men in camouflage invaded the Viewland branch of the bank armed with sophisticated weapons after the bank reportedly closed at 4 pm.
At the time of the incident, there were seven MR security personnel but only one of them was guarding the back gate while the rest were having meal.
The miscreants entered from the back gate and overpowered the lone security man, reports said.
After gaining entry, the miscreants tied up the 11 staffers at gun point, reports said.
According to reports, the robbers then took away cash worth Rs.18.85 crore from the Ukhrul treasury chest (RBI designated) of the bank.
The bank branch manager was reportedly on leave.
The police are now conducting further investigation into the matter.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the entire district, where such crimes are rarely known to occur.
The incident has also highlighted the failure to secure the branch with adequate guards and sophisticated surveillance equipment.
