Imphal, September 11 2023:
Meetei-Pangals are not required to take permission from Chin-Kuki terrorists while moving about in any part of one's own motherland, asserted Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) president Boboy Korimayum.
Addressing a press meet at MMWO office, Hatta Minuthong on Monday afternoon, Boby said that Kuki militants taking undue advantage of the conflict, have repeatedly attacked Kwakta which is predominantly inhabited by Meetei-Pangal and left eight people seriously injured.
The militants also fitted a bomb in a culvert in Kwakta, which left three Meetei Pangal youths seriously injured, with one likely to be disabled for life.
On September 9, Manipur Police SI Singamayum Sabir Ahmed and two other Meetei-Pangals were brutally beaten up for entering Churachandpur just because they were driving a vehicle bearing Salai Taret flag and a "Manipur Kaiba Yaroi (Manipur cannot be disintegrated)" sticker.
The Kuki militants also dug up a pit to bury the hostages alive, he said.
Branding the Kuki militants as cowards, Boboy said that the call for protection of Manipur's integrity is not just the voice of Sabir but that of the entire Meetei-Pangal community.
As such, it would be best for Chin-Kukis and others who want to disintegrate Manipur to remember that the Meetei Pangal will do all that is needed to uphold the state s integrity.
He then said that Chin-Kukis will be held responsible for all the attacks carried out against Meetei-Pangals in Kwakta and the recent assault on SM Sabir and his acquaintances.
Meetei-Pangals are a peace loving community and so far, have been patient despite all facing challenging situation and discrimination.
However, the community will no longer remain silent a Meetei-Pangals do not need the permission of Chin-Kukis in moving about in one's own country and state.
The state government should also stop remaining silent, waiting for nod from the central government.
If the state government cannot protect its own citizens or properties, it would be best if it ceases to exist, he remarked.
Boboy continued that it is no longer the time to stay silent just because one has not been affected by the current violence.
The various indigenous communities also need to realise that the conflict will soon reach their doorsteps.
"We do not need to avail passport or visa from Chin-Kukis to move about independently in our own motherland.
We will live and move about independently, and this is a fact that Chin-Kukis must understand," he iterated.
