Nomination process for first phase polls begins

New Delhi/Imphal, March 20 2024: The nomination process for 102 parliamentary constituencies spread across 21 states and Union territories including Manipur, where polling would be held in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 19, began Wednesday with the issuance of formal notification.

In the first phase, polling will be held in Arunachal Pradesh (2 seats), Assam (5), Bihar (4), Chhattisgarh (1), Madhya Pradesh (6), Maharashtra (5), Manipur (2), Meghalaya (2), Mizoram (1), Nagaland (1), Rajasthan (12), Sikkim (1), Tamil Nadu (39), Tripura (1), Uttar Pradesh (8), Uttarakhand (5), West Bengal (3), Andaman and Nicobar (1), Jammu and Kashmir (1), Lakshadweep (1) and Puducherry (1).The last date for filing nomination papers is March 27.On the other hand, Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency returning officer (RO) Th Kirankumar on Wednesday issued notice of election for the 18th Lok Sabha 2024 in respect of Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, scheduled on April 19.However, no nomination was filed on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, poll preparedness has started in full swing at the District Election Office, Imphal West with various district committees actively engaging in poll-related activities.

As per the notice, nomination papers may be delivered by a candidate or any of his proposers to the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency RO or to assistant returning officer (ARO) Dr Md Imran Khan at the Office of RO at Lamphelpat, Imphal between 11 am and 3 pm on any working day not later than March 27.Nomination papers will be taken up for scrutiny at 11 am on March 28 at the RO Office.

Notice of withdrawal of candidature may be delivered either by candidate or any of his proposers or by his election agent who has been authorised in writing by the candidate to deliver it to either of the officers specified at their offices before 3 pm on March 30.Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Thoubal and Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency RO Ahanthem Subhash on Wednesday issued the notification for the upcoming election for Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.

Speaking to media persons at his office on Wednesday, A Subhash informed that the nomination papers may be delivered by a candidate or any of his proposers between 11 am and 3 pm on any working day by March 27 to his office or to AROs/ADCs of Ukhrul, Senapati, Kangpokpi, Tamenglong and Churachandpur.

A Subhash also disclosed that the total number of voters for Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency is 10,36,737 including 5,30,557 women and 33 transgender.

Polling in the 1st phase on April 19 for Outer Manipur Constituency will be conducted from 7 am to 4 pm in assembly segments of Heirok, Wangjing Tentha, Khangabok, Wabagai, Kakching, Hiyanglam, Sugnu, Chandel (ST), Saikul (ST), Kangpokpi, Saitu (ST), Henglep (ST), Churachandpur (ST), Saikot (ST) and Singhat (ST).

Meanwhile, in the 2nd phase on April 26, election will be held from 7 am to 4 pm in assembly segments of Jiribam, Tengnoupal (ST), Phungyar (ST), Ukhrul (ST), Chingai (ST), Karong (ST), Mao (ST), Tadubi (ST), Tamei (ST), Tamenglong (ST), Nungba (ST), Tipaimukh (ST) and Thanlon (ST).

For both parliamentary constituencies in Manipur counting will begin on June 4.For the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Chief Electoral Office (CEO) Manipur had already appointed DC Imphal West as returning officer (RO) for Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency and DC Thoubal as RO for Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency.

Meanwhile, a notification of the CEO Manipur said that postal ballots for 21,815 service electors will be sent electronically through ETPBS by respective ROs within 24 hours of finalisation of candidates on March 30.Postal ballots are issued to personnel on election duty by relevant authority.

Notably, total number of electors for both Lok Sabha constituencies of Manipur is 20,28,784 with female electors standing at 10,47,929.The state has 14,152 differently-abled, 239 transgender and 22,491 electors above 85 years of age.

Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency has a total of 9,89,887 electors including 4,73,531 female, 5,16,150 male and 206 transgender electors.

There will be a total of 1319 polling stations for the constituency.

Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency has a total of 10,36,736 electors including 5,06,147 male, 5,30,556 female and 33 transgender and they will vote at 1636 polling stations.
