Village volunteer injured in Pukhao Shantipur attack

Imphal, February 12 2024:
One village volunteer guarding Pukhao Shantipur village under Sagolmang police station in Imphal East district suffered injuries as well-armed suspected Kuki militants launched attack on the Meetei village located in the fringe area.
According to sources, the Kuki militants started attacking Pukhao Shantipur village using bombs and automatic firearms since Sunday midnight from atop the nearby hills falling under Kangpokpi district.
Volunteers guarding the Meetei village retaliated the fire leading to a fierce gun-battle in the area during which one Meetei village volunteer suffered injuries and
underwent treatment in a private hospital in Imphal.
Pukhao Shantipur villagers fled to nearby safer locations due to the attacks by Kuki militants as village volunteers from different directions rushed to the village to repulse the attacking Kuki militants.
After a brief lull at about 3pm, Kuki militants resumed attacking Pukhao Shantipur village at dusk to which the village volunteers retaliated resulting in another round of gun-battle.
There is no report of casualty on Meetei village volunteers in the gun-battle in the evening but some Kuki militants might have suffered injuries in the gun-battle in the afternoon.
On the other hand, Kuki militants attacked Sinam village from 7pm Monday from atop the nearby hills triggering fierce gun-battle as village volunteer returned fire.
The gun-battle is still on till the time of filing this report while there is no report of casualty on the side of Meetei village volunteers, who are resisting the attempt of the Kuki militants to take over the Meetei village located close to Kangpokpi district.
