Governor meets VC, IGAR-designate, Maheshwar

Bir Tikendrajit University vice chancellor professor AK Choudary along with varsity's Directorate of Research & Extension coordinator Dr Johnson Luwang called on Governor of Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Monday and held discussion on promoting peace and prosperity in Manipur through education.
The Governor urged the duo to continue their services in the education sector for the welfare and development of the state.
Meanwhile, IGAR (South)-designate major general Ravroop Singh met Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Monday evening and briefed on the prevailing law and order situations in the state.
The general officer was accompanied by the outgoing IGAR (South) major general Rajan Sharawat.
The Governor appreciated the efforts made by major general Rajan Sharawat during his tenure in the state and extended good wishes for all his future endeavours.
On the other hand, Republican Party of India (A) national secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam along with Potshangbam Chand Meetei called on the Governor and briefed her on measures for bringing permanent peace and normalcy in Manipur.
The duo proposed implementation of the Manipur Hill Areas (Acquisition of Chieftainship) Act, 1967, abrogation of the tripartite Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement signed by the governments of India and Manipur with armed groups of Kuki-Chln-Zo community signed on August 22, 2008 and extended till February 29, 2024 and implementation of NRC with 1951 as the base year.
They also conveyed the problems and grievances of the Internally Displaced Persons taking refuge in relief camps.
The Governor took note of their concerns and assured to look into the matter and discuss with the authority concerned.
She also urged them to submit a list of the relief camps facing problems at present.
Interacting with the media after the meeting, Maheshwar said that abrogation of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) is the demand raised by the people and he urged the Governor to convey the public's demand to the Centre.
He also informed the Governor that Kuki communities form armed groups for each clans and there are 45 militant groups within the community along with urging the Governor to scrap or amend the Manipur Hill Areas (Acquisition of Chieftainship) Act, 1967 to prevent Kuki people from setting up new small villages at their will in order to avoid future issues.
He also drew attention of the Governor regarding the ST status granted to Kuki community, saying they are nomadic tribes, and also to implement NRC to check unnatural population growth among the Kuki community.
He further appealed to the Governor to advise the state government to provide financial assistance to the displaced people in relief camps so that they could live without facing financial burden, and to ensure education to displaced students.
