2 held with cough syrup, remanded

Two individuals arrested by Imphal West district police commandos along with 3160 bottles of cough syrup CODEDYL-CT on November 28 have been remanded in police custody till December 5 .
The arrested persons identified as Md Tarique Ahamed (33) s/o Md Siraj Ahamed of Lilong Haoreibi Leihaokhong and Md Imtiyas Khan (25) s/o Md Satar of Lilong Tolen Khun were produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West yesterday by a team of Lamphel police station with a prayer for police custody remand till December 5 .
Acting on a specific input about transportation of banned items in a four-wheeler (Tata Super Ace) in Ghari area, a team of Imphal West commandos rushed to the area and carried out a frisking and checking exercise at Ghari Makha Leikai near Mahindra showroom.
On checking a Tata Super Ace at around 3.20 pm, some boxes levelled with CODEDYL-CT cough syrup were found.
On opening the boxes in presence of an Executive Magistrate, a total of 3160 bottles of cough syrup containing 10 mg of Codeine Phosphate IP per bottle were found.
Subsequently the driver and the single occupant of the vehicle were detained.
They disclosed that the boxes were to be delivered to one Makakmayum Apikcha (45) s/o (L) Angoubi of Lilong Leihaokhong and the boxes were brought from a courier located at Mantripukhri Khabam Lamkhai.
They further disclosed that the cough syrup consignment came from one SK Enterprise of Khongnang Ani Karak.
The commando team, apart from seizing the cough syrup bottles, arrested the driver and the occupant of the vehicle by observing necessary formalities.
