Thoubal, June 25 2023: In two separate incidents, meira paibis seized 100 litres of local alcohol from Kshetrileikai Moirang Palli and betel leaves, Talab and WIN cigarettes from Yairipok Bishnunaha today.

During a drive conducted today, Kshetrileikai Apunba Meira Paibi seized roughly 100 litres of local liquor and subsequently disposed of the same by setting them ablaze.

Speaking in this connection, one meira paibi leader stated that in the midst of the ongoing conflict, meira paibis have been guarding their respective localities day and night while sacrificing their sleep.

During such a volatile climate, many under the influence of intoxicating substances have caused stirs and other unwanted incidents when meira paibis are conducting checks.

Thus, today's drive was conducted to put a stop to such unwanted incidents, she said.

Further, she appealed against sale and purchase/trade of such intoxicating substances.

Separately, BYFY Club and meira paibis of Yairipok Bishnunaha seized betel leaves and other tobacco products while checking vehicles passing through the area today.

The seized items, which include betel leaves, Talab and WIN cigarettes were set ablaze at the bank of Bishnunaha Pukhri Achouba in public view.

An unnamed meira paibi has appealed to cease trading in such harmful products while the State is in the grips of a violent conflict.
