Imphal, June 12 2023: With over 47,000 peo-ple affected by the communal violence, the state government is all set to construct 4000 pre-fabricated houses for the displaced families at the earliest possible, according to chief minister N Biren.

While appealing to the peo-ple to give peace a chance and to trust the governments of India and Manipur to bring normalcy in the state, he as-serted that the government of Manipur will save the state from the clutches of drugs and outsiders not through guns but under the provisions of the constitution of India.

Addressing media persons at the Darbar Hall of the Chief Minister's secretariat here on Monday, Biren further stated that the communal violence which erupted on May 3 has displaced over 47,000 people and forced them to take shelter in relief camps opened in dif-ferent part of the state.

With the monsoon already arriving in the state, the state cabinet on Monday thoroughly discussed certain issues in-cluding constructing tempo-rary houses for the displaced people taking shelter in relief camps.

The government has also decided to identify lo-cations where prefabricat-ed houses having with two bedrooms, one kitchen, one washroom and a common room for a family can be set up to rehabilitate those staying in relief camps.

At the same time, those who are willing to return to their own homes, which were damaged during the unfortunate incidents, will also be provided assistance through housing schemes and One Family One Livelihood Scheme, he added.

CM Biren further informed that education of children in relief camps will also be pro-vided at nearby schools and colleges of their conveniences.

The government is also discuss-ing possibilities of arranging their schools and colleges fees and decision of the government would be made known to the public in two days' time.

He also said that the state government is taking up all necessary measures under the strict instruction of PM Na-rendra Modi and it would be wrong to assume that the Prime Minister is doing nothing as alleged by some to gain political mileage at such a critical junc-ture.

There are certain things which the government cannot express or exhibit, he said.

While describing as un-precedented that a Union Home Minister stayed in a state for three days and the Union minister of state for home affairs for constantly monitoring and taking stock of the situation in the state for more than 16 days, the chief minister said Amit Shah's visit was under the instruction of the Prime Minister He continued that under the supervision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre has already sanctioned a Rs 100 crore (approx.) pack-age for necessary immediate relief along with 30,000 MT rice for distribution to the affected people in addition to deploying over 40000 para military forces in the state.

The government is also trying to provide all essential items to the people, he added.

He said the government has been working towards bringing normalcy in the state.

Min-isters, MLAs and officials are working for evacuation of affected persons, setting up of relief camps, providing security, etc.

The Centre has repeatedly assured that the state's territorial integrity will not be disturbed and will not allow 'Separate Administration' in the state.

He reiterated that the state govern-ment is committed to safeguarding Manipur's integrity.

Now that a Judicial Commission has been constituted, it will not be long before we find out the truth on how the violence erupted in the state, the chief minister said and added "Let's leave violence and allow the rule of law to prevail with the cooperation and support of the people".

The chief minister also said that a 'No work, no pay' system will be enforced for the govern-ment officials, and stressed that those unable to physically attend office may do so through e-office.

If there is any proof available against any government employee getting involved in the communal violence, necessary actions will be taken up according to the laws of the land N Biren also appealed all not be carried away by emotion and indulge in violence.

The press briefing was also attended by Speaker Th Satyabrata Singh, cabinet min-isters, chairman of Boards and Corporations and MLAs among others.
