Leimapokpam Damodar passes away

Renowned writer and critic Leimapokpam Damodar passed away today at the age of 81 at around 4 am at his residence at Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leikai.
He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
Damodar was born at Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leikai on July 1, 1934 to Leimapokpam Amubi and Ibempishak.
He completed MA and LLB in Kolkata University.
He was the principal of Imphal College.
He was also chairman of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad and Writers Forum, Imphal, vice chairman of JN Manipur Dance Academy, secretary of State Kala Akademi and member of Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Kolkata and Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.
He led many cultural troupes of the state in the United States, China, Mongolia and Germany.
Manipuri Sahitya Parishad had also honoured him with the Sahitya Bhusan award in 2010. 'Sahitya amasung Theatre' (Manipuri) and 'Aspects of Manipuri Literature' (English)are the two famous books of the late writer.
'Manipuri Lila Macha' (1975), 'Dr Kamal Neinaba Wareng' (1975), 'Sakharam Binder' (Translation, 1986), 'Anouba Wari Macha' (1992), 'Medieval Indian Literature' (Manipuri Volume-3, 1999) and 'L Kamal Singh' (Monogram, 2000) are some of his works.
The Manipuri Sahitya Parishad expressed its condolence over the demise of its former chairman Leimapokpam Damodar.
The Parishad held a condolence meeting at its office at Paona Bazaar today and paid tributes to the departed soul by observing a two minute silence.The Manipur State Kala Akademi also held a meeting today at its office to condole the demise of its former secretary Leimapokpam Damodar.
The meeting recounted the contribution of Damodar in shifting the akademi's office at Khuman Lampak.
The Jawaharal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy also expressed its condolence over the demise of the renowned critic.
In a meeting, the academy remembered the contribution of the late critic in the field of literature, theatre and culture.
