Imphal, February 04, 2011:
The Naga People's Organization (NPO) Committee on Census 2011 while welcoming the ongoing Census 2011 operation in the State and country as a whole has expressed resentment against alleged indifferent attitude of the O Ibobi-led Govt in respect of Senapati district.
It is disheartening and unfortunate to learn that, massive manipulation on the present Census by authorities concerned at the behest of the State Government has been targeted against the tribal people particularly, Senapati district, said an NPO statement issued by the Committee chairman ML Markson.
Contending that the CM O Ibobi with his authoritative machinery is widely known to be behind such activities deeply hurting the sentiment of the people in the district, the Naga body also maintained that not considering the inevitable phenomenal growth of increasing population, the state govt has played a hidden political game on communal card against the tribal of Manipur.
Noting that population growth in the valley population has been increasing rapidly in the recent Census without any hindrance while the growth figure in tribal areas especially Senapati district has been branded as 'abnormal' even in the 2011 Census after similar tag with regard to the 2001 Census, Markson posed "Is it a policy of the majority ruled to increase the political benefits and deny the same to those in the Hill Districts?" Further opining that the present State Govt's intervention in the Census operation particularly Senapati district to maintain certain percentage is a clear manifestation of depriving one's basic right to exist with identity, the NPO statement also highlighted that role of the majority community to suppress the individual's existence and development of minority/backward communities is a detrimental factor to peaceful co-existence.
