Sensitisation workshop held

A sensitisation workshop on "Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities" was organised by the Spastic Society of Manipur in association with SSA-SMA under the sponsorship of Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) at State Guest House today.
Speaking at the workshop, RCI Member Secretary highlighted the roles of various stakeholder departments in empowering disabled persons.
Deputy Director of the National Centre for Disability Studies, IGNOU Dr Hemlata spoke on human resource development through distance mode of education.
She said that IGNOU has opened BA, MSc and PG courses in addition to various certificate courses on rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
Spastic Society of Manipur secretary Tokendra Ricky spoke on rights of disabled persons as mentioned in the articles of UNCPRD.
He said that the UNCPRD has become an international law and has given disabled persons rights to live in inclusive family, study in inclusive schools, work in inclusive work-places and participate equally in society and community with others.
It is further reported that the Spastic Society of Manipur, in association with RCI and SSA/SMA, would be organising another workshop on 'Management of Children with Disabilities' on February 5 at the same venue.
