Imphal, February 04, 2011:
Taking into account limited availability of diesel fuel (HSD) at retail outlets in many parts of Imphal area, surprise checking of certain pumps were carried out today during which irregularity had been detected resulting in sealing of a retail outlet fuel located in Imphal East district.
The raids were carried out by an official team of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF&PD) led by its Director since morning.
It is said that out of a total of 16 kilolitres lifted for public sale by the said retail outlet in the last two consecutive days only a quantity of 800 litres was found as balance in the storage tank.
As the outlet could neither furnish documents in support of sale of the remaining 15,200 litres during the 48 hours period nor maintained proper/prescribed sales register to the inspection team at the spot, the officials concluded the case as evidence of irregularity while selling the HSD provision to the public.
Accordingly, the outlet was sealed under lock and key to stop further transaction for HSD till further orders even though sale of petrol to the public will continue as usual.
On the otherhand, CAF&PD has listed eight of its employees in charge of 16 fuel retail outlets in Imphal West and East districts with the instruction to record in their presence loading and unloading of petrol as well as diesel fuel.
The 8 personnel have been instructed to obtain opening and closing balance of the petroleum products in the retail outlets and submit relevant reports to the authorities.
