Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has said that the State Government is trying to set up flying squads to monitor influx of migrants to the State.
He was addressing media persons at his office chamber today on the issue of implementation of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in the State.
Gaikhangam, who is also the Chairman of All Political Parties' Committee on ILPS, further said that the State Government has sought views and opinions from legal experts, scholars and researchers including retired judges and university professors regarding the implementation of Inner Line Permit System or similar regulation to check influx of migrants to the State.
The Government would also seek the help of constitutional experts in framing such regulation, he added.
He also noted that the talks between the Government and Joint Committee on ILPS (JCILPS) turned out to be positive and it would soon come to a logical conclusion.
All Political Parties' Committee on ILPS is also seriously concerned with the ILPS issue and it would draw recommendations after thorough analysis of views and opinions given by the experts and scholars, Gaikhangam said.
Deputy Chief Minister also stated that All Political Parties' Committee would try to convene a joint meeting with the Director of Economics & Statistics and Commissioner of Labour on October 1 next month to discuss the issue of rapid increase in the population of non-locals in the State.
Gaikhangam further appealed to all not to politicize the ILP issue and render cooperation to the Government and All Political Parties' Committee to bring out a logical conclusion at the earliest.
MLAs RK Anand and Ng Bijoy were also present during the press conference.
Meanwhile, the members of JCILPS today met Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and urged him to take stringent action against Additional SP Victoria Yengkhom for her alleged highhanded behavior shown to the volunteers of JCILPS.
