HC delegation vows to enhance Justice System in Ukhrul

In a significant development, a delegation from the High Court of Manipur, led by Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul, on Saturday, visited Ukhrul district headquarters to address pressing infrastructure and operational challenges faced by the local judiciary.
Chief Justice Mridul was accompanied by esteemed members of the High Court team, including Justices A Bimol Singh and A Guneshwar Sharma, registrar general Yumkham Rother, district & sessions judge Binny Ngangom, registrar (Judicial) Ojesh Mutum, and member secretary of MASLSA Alek Muivah.
During the visit, the Ukhrul Bar Association, represented by president Micheal Zimik, presented a memorandum advocating for three key measures namely, early completion of the District and Sessions Court complex, the appointment of a presiding officer to enable regular court proceedings, and the establishment of a District Consumers' Court.
Addressing the media, Chief Justice Mridul affirmed the court's commitment to the principle of Access to Justice' for all citizens.
He acknowledged the importance of a dedicated court building and appropriate staffing levels in Ukhrul to ensure the efficiency and integrity of judicial processes.
Regarding the delayed District and Sessions Court project, Chief Justice Mridul announced that construction would commence within the current quarter.
He emphasised the importance of having both the district judge and chief judicial magistrate physically present in Ukhrul, rather than relying on video conferencing from Imphal.
"The physical presence of judicial officers is paramount," Chief Justice Mridul stated, adding that the same would facilitate prompt decision-making and enhances access to justice for the people.
He revealed that the necessary land for the court complex had been secured and construction plans approved.
The Chief Justice projected a completion timeline of approximately two and a half years.
Chief Justice Mridul underscored that the delegation's visit was to fulfill the High Court's commitment to ensuring "Access to Justice" at every doorstep.
Dedicated court infrastructure and personnel are vital to upholding the integrity of judicial proceedings and fostering public confidence in the rule of law, he added.
