Imphal, June 12 2010:
Ahead of the 'Unity Day 2010' observance on June 18, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has called upon the people to exercise maximum restraint inspite of sinister ploys being allegedly hatched by the Central Government with the NSCN (IM) as the implementing agency.
An AMUCO leaflet issued today opined that the Naga rebel group is being taken for a ride with false promise that threatens to sow seeds of enmity among the ethnic people of the North Eastern region.
expressing resentment that joint venture of Centre and NSCN (IM) had already resulted in the loss of 18 precious lives during the course of the public movement against extension ceasefire beyond territorial limit, AMUCO said 'piecemeal' solution rather than 'composite talk' initiated by the Central Government would only aggravate the situation and trigger turmoil in the whole region.
With demands for sovereignty and autonomy no more on the talks menu, and the NSCN (IM) insisting on distortion of boundaries of manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in pursuit of Greater Nagaland or South Nagaland, such ethnic centric aspiration of the rebel group has the potential to spark communal violence in the NE region, maintained AMUCO.
Encouraged by the Centre's divisive policy, the region had been facing issues of homeland demands as well as autonomy based on ethnicity which when granted would certainly spark violence for Bodos have been demanding separation from Assam, even as Dimasas have raised demand for regaining Dimapur.
Moreover, people belonging to Garo in Meghalaya, Chakmas of Arunachal Pradesh and Reang tribes in Mizoram have begun to demand separate entities which would mean parting ties from the parent States and its people which will certainly not be smooth.
On the otherhand, initiating dialogue with only the NSCN (IM) would not usher peace in the region for North East has many insurgent groups who are fighting against the Central Government for one cause or the other, AMUCO said while expressing awe that the Union Government had been ignoring sentiment of the general masses in trying to please the NSCN (IM) whose crime records are unending.
apart from butchering innocent Kukis, slaying of individuals and openly extorting from the people the NSCN (IM) had been levying illegal tax from vehicles which only compound miseries of the general public, the body said and alleged that Central security forces prefer to remain as muted spectator inspite of such criminal acts being carried out in their presence.
Expressing that people of manipur understands nefarious ploy of the Centre in using the NSCN (IM) to create divisions in the region, AMUCO said due to maturity of the people multiple hardships are being endured and no particular community is being targeted inspite of instigation.
Regarding the ongoing economic blockade enforced by ANSAM with UNC's support, AMUCO said the agitation is irrelevant and unjustifiable for turnout of voters in the two-phase ADC elections have demonstrated that majority of the tribal people aspires for development and progress rather than remain suppressed under some pressure group/s.Report carried by Guwahati-based The Sentinel on May 19, 2010 had clearly indicated that ANSAM and UNC's move is to deny voting rights to the tribal people.
AMUCO also advised NSCN (IM) to abandon its programme of creating divisions in the region for such a policy is against the spirit of revolutionary movement or an insurgent group as weapons were taken up to fight for the people's cause and not to create mayhem
and bloodshed.
On the unity Day observance, AMUCO urged the people to assemble at THAU ground for a public meeting being convened at 11 am of June 18 would focus on the present situation arising out of the hidden agenda of the Centre-NSCN (IM) political dialogue.
