A brain storming session for 'Reinforcing peace in Ukhrul' was organised by HQ 10 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (S) on 12th Jun 2010 at Somsai, Ukhrul.
The aim of this session was to provide a forum to all social organisations, prominent personalities and the civil administration to workout a common & viable way to reinforce peace in Ukhrul.
In the backdrop of the prevailing situation of Manipur in general and Ukhrul in particular it was decided by Assam Rifles that it would be prudent to hold a brainstorming session wherein heads of all social organisations, prominent personalities and representatives of civil administration could get together and work towards reinforcing and maintaining peace in Ukhrul.
The session was attended by heads of various social organisation and other prominent personalities to include Mr Ngareishang ; Vice President TNL, Mr Stephen Ankhang ; Ex President TNL, Dr Y L Mingthing ; TTA (moderator), Mr S Shimray ; Ex TNL President, Father Somi Roberts ; Scared Heart School ,Father Linus, Savio School, Ms Silla Jajo ; President TSL, Ms M Keishing ; Ukhrul Higher Sec School, Ms Soso Shaiza, Little Angles School, Advocate Pheirei, Advocate Vakham, Ms Paulina Monsang ; NYK, Mr Ramson, Ex President TNL, Mr W Shimray ; TNWL, SP Chuireinyam ; Fin Secy TKS, Samson Keishing ; TNL Member ; Col Ved Beniwal CO 17 AR ; Col C D Singh CO 23 AR ; Lt Col Amit Dhir and Maj A D S Bedi.
Mr Ashok Kumar, DC Ukhrul also graced the occasion as guests of honour.
The brainstorming session started with a welcome address by Brig Harish Thukral, Cdr 10 Sector Assam Rifles.
During his opening remarks he thanked everyone for the continued and unstinted support to Assam Rifles because of which Assam Rifles has been able to carryout meaningful activities for the good of people all over Ukhrul Dist.
He, however expressed deep concern over the recent disturbing events which have led the district into a state of turmoil and urged all in attendance to unitedly and collectively work towards the cause of restoring and maintaining peace in the district.
In continuance Justice W A Shishak delivered the Key Note Address wherein he emphasised the importance of dialogue to resolve issues rather than resorting to the violence, which in turn, begets violence.
This was followed by an open session in which all present including Mr Ashok Kumar, DC Ukhrul brought out their points of view.
Dr Y L Mingthing who also was the moderator during the session summed up the session.
The session ended with a vote of thanks by Brig Harish Thukral.
All present during the session expressed their gratitude and praised Assam Rifles for providing them a platform for sharing their views and finding ways and means to reinforce peace in Ukhrul.
The brainstorming session as brought out by the participants would definitely go a long way in not only restoring and maintaining peace in Ukhul but also ensure that if endangered it would provide a flawless mechanism in which peace would be restored by consensual solution.
