Commemorating the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks carried out by Al-Qaeda on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre, a memorial service was held in honour of Jupiter Yambem who lost his life in the attack.
The memorial service which was held at Mongjam Chingjin in Imphal East district was highlighted by an offering of floral tribute on the portrait of Yambem Jupiter and a two-minute silence to honour the deceased.
Speaking on the occasion, Yambem Laba, elder brother of the deceased said that on September 11 of 2001, he saw images of airplanes flying headlong into the World Trade Centre (WTC) on the television.

At first, it looked like a Hollywood movie, but in the next instant breaking news of a terrorist attack on the WTC poured in.
He shared that a reporter at Delhi informed him that his brother Jupiter was still in the building which was under attack.
At this point, repeated calls to his mobile phone went unanswered.
But after three/four days, he said that his sister-in-law informed him of the recovery of his brother's body.
Stating that his brother was cremated in the US following both Christian and Hindu rituals, he added that in Manipur too the traditional rituals following a death were observed.
"His ashes were brought home and scattered in the Loktak lake", Yambem Laba said.
The senior journalist went on to share that his brother who was 44 years old at the time, worked as the Senior Banquet manager at the Windows of the World restaurant at the top floor of the WTC.
He is survived by his wife and a 27/28 year old son.
Stating that Jupiter Yambem played a vital role in the establishment of the North American Manipuri Association, Laba further shared that throughout his 10 year stay in the US, Jupiter never got US citizenship but retained his Indian passport.
The memorial service was attended by Brigadier (Retd) Laiphrakpam Ibotombi, Major Yambem Angamba and Senjam Surjit, president All India Printing Press Association as the presidium members.
It is worth noting that in the 9/11 attacks, 19 Al Qaeda members hijacked four commercial airliners and launched an attack on the WTC at New York City, Washington DC and the Pentagon.
2,997 people, including the 19 militants lost their lives in the attack while thousands more suffered injuries.
