Prof Islamuddin murder case: Charge-sheet hearing on Feb 10

Six months after the CBI submitted a charge-sheet against four persons in the Prof Md Islamuddin murder case, the Session Judge, Manipur East took up the case today and announced that the charge-sheet hearing will begin from February 10. Prof Islamuddin was shot dead by gunmen coming on a Kinetic Honda in broad daylight on May 25, 2009 while he was coming out from his office room and heading towards his car parked in front of the Economics Department.
Two days after the shooting, Manipur government handed over the case to the CBI.
Accordingly, CBI also registered an FIR case and started an investigation.
The CBI submitted the charge-sheet to the court of CJM, Imphal West on July 30, 2010.In the charge-sheet, the investigating agency charged four persons behind the murder.
They were Th Shyam alias Ngouba, N Indrakumar Meitei, W Jayenta alias Dilip alias Lakpa alias Ingobi and Langamba Mangang alias Chirom Robert Meitei alias Chirom Ranjit alias Anil alias Mangang.
The charge-sheet pointed out that the professor was killed in connection with the elections to the Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) and plan was hatched by Chirom Ranjit conspiring with some other persons.
Deepak alias Tombi alias Boiler, working as special finance secretary of KYKL was handed over the task of killing the professor with the help of Jayenta of Wangoi Laiphrakpam Mayai Leikai.
After hearing the charge-sheet on August 2, 2010, the CJM, Imphal West court had given offence cognizance to the four accused persons under section 120-B, 302 of the Indian Penal Code and under section 18 and 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967. Arrest warrants were issued to two accused, Jayenta and Langamba who are still at large while summon notices were given to the families of the other two, Shyam and Indrakumar who are in jail now.
Manipur government had also sanctioned prosecution of the persons mentioned in the charge-sheet.
