Imphal, April 25 2016: By and by, people of Kangleipak were reduced to spineless, characterless lots.

There are many scoundrels and gutless fellow in the contemporary society while a man of character is hard to come by, rued the KYKL Chairman.

Loss of character led to disappearance of mutual trust and this ultimately led to disappearance of unity from the society.

In fact, the contemporary Kanglei society is not fit to be called a human society.

Social discipline as well as moral structures have disappeared and the nation is fading and there is no community feeling among the people.

With the exception of a handful of people, all the people are given to one or other intoxicating substances.

It is said that 30 to 40 per cent of the youngsters are drug addicts, Oken continued.

Just like there is no trust between two individuals, the level of distrust and animosity between different communities has also reached the limits.

All these harsh realities are the fruits of Indian hegemony.

Unless a nation is weakened and made dependent, their identity cannot be destroyed and as long as their identity as alive, no nation would adopt the identity of any other nation.

Given this precarious and gloomy situation, people of Kangleipak are unable to do anything.

Manipur's dependence on grants and loans given by India has been increasing day by day.

On the other hand, the collective strength of the nation has been dwindling day by day in reciprocal manner.

With most of the people losing their self-confidence, the revolutionary movement is also struggling for survival rather than making any headway, Oken confided.

One major flaw of the revolutionary movement is lack of understanding about Indian hegemony on the part of revolutionary leaders and their failure to explain Indian hegemony to the masses.

Another defect is the inability to build 'counter-hegemony' against India.

"All people/nations want to live.

We also want to live but there is no meaning to living as marginalized people.

Our life would be meaningful only when we have political power to determine our ways of life", Oken asserted.

Despite living within India, people of Kangleipak should do all they can to protect their identity and make Kangleipak least dependent on India economically.

Kangleipak should be saved from the scourge of drug abuse and incessant influx of migrants.

"For transforming all these necessities into action, we must know the Indian hegemony and understand our own reality", Oken asserted.

Giving up the path of revolutionary with a notion that the people of Kangleipak have embraced Indian rule willingly would be a grave mistake, concluded the KYKL Chairman.
