Do not politicise Mary Kom's nomination to RS: RK Imo

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) general secretary who is also the MLA of Sagolband A/C, RK Imo has today appealed to all political parties and masses not to politicise the nomination of pugilist Mary Kom as a Rajya Sabha Member.
He was speaking as the chief guest of a function organised in connection with the distribution of GCI sheet at Kakhulong, Imphal by Kakhulong Progressive Development Committee.
Describing Mary Kom as the "Jewel of Manipur", Imo said the President of India has given his assent to the nomination of the pugilist as the Rajya Sabha Member considering her achievements.
And everyone should support Mary Kom to perform effectively her role and responsibility in the Rajya Sabha without politicizing her nomination.
Stating that the State has many other eminent personalities from varied fields like Mary Kom who deserve nomination in the Rajya Sabha, the MLA drew the attention of the Centre for further nominations in future from among the eminent personalities from the State.
Asserting on the developmental activities carried out by him and the Congress party, Imo said that many locations in and around Imphal will be glowing soon as the CM had given assurance for the installation of more street lamps besides repairing the non-functional lamps before the ensuing IMC election.
He also informed that all the important roads and streets in his constituency will be blacktopped in addition to repairing the pitiable ones.
Maintaining that the due compensation amount of Nambul Mapan eviction of 1994 has also been successfully transferred to the bank accounts of some of the affected landowners, he said the compensation for the remaining landowners would soon be fulfilled.
He also urged the public to support the INC candidates in the ensuing IMC election.
Imo distributed GCI sheets to 70 beneficiaries from Kakhulong and Keishamthong during the function.
Besides GCI sheets were delivered to 30 beneficiaries of Old Lambulane at their locality.
These localities are under Ward no 24 of Imphal Municipal Council.
The function was also attended by Karangchonglu Gangmei, Councillor, IMC and Meitutna Phaomei, Khullakpa, Kakhulong Pei as the guest of honour and president respectively.
