Imphal, April 25 2016:
Refuting the claim made by the husband's family in the alleged hanging of a 21-year-old married woman her family refused to accept the body and a scuffle ensued between the two sides at the premises of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) today.
The deceased woman has been identified as Mutum ongbi Anjali (21) of Ahallup Bhamdyar Awang Leikai, Imphal West while the husband is identified as Mutum Goutam (22) of Yurembam Awang Leikai, Imphal West.
As per the version of the husband's family, the woman allegedly hung herself to death in the night of April 23 and the autopsy was conducted today.
A scuffle broke out after the autopsy while the body was about to be taken home by the locals and relatives of Goutam's family.
A group of people numbering around 50 who claimed to be neighbours and family members of Anjali arrived at the mortuary and opposed the attempt made by the other side to take home the corpse.
The opposition came on the charge that the autopsy was not done openly and the maternal family of Anjali was not taken into confidence.
Moreover the husband's family tried to take back the body in connivance with Patsoi PS.
Police personnel of Patsoi police station present at the premises timely controlled the scuffle and a long negotiation was carried out with both the parties.
Anjali's party present at the morgue alleged that the family of the deceased woman came to know about the incident only after a lady from Yurembam Awang Leikai informed them.
Anjali's family alleged foul play in the case and accused the husband and his family of never informing the family of Anjali and refuted the claim that Anjali was found hanging inside her room.
The family of the demised woman also blamed Goutam and his family of surrendering to Patsoi PS before giving information to Anjali's family.
Anjali's party also informed that a temporary agreement has been reached and that the body will be kept inside RIMS mortuary for two days.
The information also said that a Joint Action Committee will be formed within the said two days after a public meeting at Ahallup Bhamdyar Awang Leikai and the future course of action will be decided.
