Registrar to supervise census work

Registrar General of Census Chandramolly would be would be visiting the State on February 12 to personally supervise the last phase of census data collection work scheduled to begin from February 8. An official source informed that the Census Registrar General would be accompanied by North East in-charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs Shambu Singh.
During his stay at Imphal, Registrar General Chandramolly would entertain enquiries from any quarters about census operations.
In addition to head count, the second phase of the census operation which would continue till February 29 would also use biometrics for compilation of the National Population Registry (NPR).
To ensure that the census operation is conducted a smoothly, the Census Office has asked DCs to identify sensitive areas.
It is reported that adequate strength of security forces would be used in the second phase census operation.
The first phase of census operation conducted in April last year mainly concentrated on house listing and data collection for NPR.
Abnormal increase in population and mass migration of people from villages to district headquarters were detected during the first phase in some sub-divisions of hill districts.
Incidentally, the issue surrounding overlapping of different districts in around 120 villages has not been resolved yet.
